For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Ephesians 5:31

A Godly relationship should resemble Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:25)  In todays society we are loosing focus on relationships that are built on the foundation of God. We are quick to rush into things especially into sexual relationships which is clearly forbidden in the Bible unless two are joined as husband and wife. (1 Corinthians 7:2)  We are to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. We have babies being born to young girls, people changing partners as often as they can and the divorce rate is the highest it’s ever been. When we begin a relationship without allowing God to be involved there will be no hope in the long run, eventually it will end or we will be stuck in an unhappy situation. People often wonder why things don’t work out or why they can’t find someone to stay around well it’s because the relationship is not built on a foundation of God.

The Bible gives us clear instructions on how to build a Godly relationship, what our roles as the Husband and Wife should be and defines marriage clearly.  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24)  Husbands should love their wives as much as they love the Lord. Both the Husband and the Wife should submit unto each other for fear of the Lord (Ephesians 5:21) Wives are known to be the weaker vessel but she is equal in the eyes of the Lord (1 Peter 3:7)  We in general have an issue with recognizing the roles in a marriage clearly outlined by God. The Husband is the head of the household, he is the leader and ultimately is to be the final decision maker. But he is also to see his wife as an equal, respect her, cherish her and treat her as God would by displaying unconditional love. The wife is to realize although God sees her as an equal and is to be treated as one, she is still to be submissive, respect her husband’s role, and be supportive in all aspects.  If more couples would recognize their roles and follow through many issues we have today in relationships would be dissolved.
